Question 1

Do I have to sleep train?

Accepted Answer

No. Working with a sleep consultant does not automatically mean traditional sleep training. Some families come to me specifically because they want help teaching their child to fall asleep more independently. Others want to improve schedules, naps, early mornings, bedtime routines, or night wakings without making major changes to how they respond to their child. We'll talk about what you're comfortable with, and your plan will reflect it.

Question 2

Can I still breastfeed while working on sleep?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As both a Certified Sleep Consultant and Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, I consider feeding alongside sleep rather than automatically treating it as a “sleep association” that needs to disappear. You can breastfeed and work on sleep.

Question 3

Will I have to stop feeding my baby overnight?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Night feeding can be completely appropriate depending on your baby's age, growth, feeding patterns, and individual needs. We'll look at your specific situation and decide together what makes sense—and when something belongs with your pediatrician or IBCLC, I'll tell you.

Question 4

Do you work with newborns?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a different focus. For newborns and young infants, the focus is on safe sleep, realistic expectations, routines, sleep foundations, and responsive settling—not formal sleep training.

Question 5

Can you help without changing everything we're currently doing?

Accepted Answer

Very often, yes. Sometimes the answer isn't a complete sleep overhaul. A schedule adjustment, different bedtime, nap transition, change to the sleep environment, or small shift in how you're responding can make a meaningful difference. We'll identify what's working first. The goal isn't to change things simply for the sake of changing them.

Question 6

Can you help with naps?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Short naps, nap resistance, nap transitions, wake windows, and schedule timing are some of the most common things families come to me for.

Question 7

Do you work with toddlers?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Toddler support often covers bedtime battles, repeatedly leaving the room, crib-to-bed transitions, nap resistance, dropping the final nap, and sleep disruptions surrounding a new sibling or other major transition. Toddler plans often focus just as much on routines, communication, boundaries, and consistency as they do on sleep itself.

Question 8

When does my support period begin?

Accepted Answer

For Sleep SOS and Newborn Sleep Foundations, support begins when you receive your written recommendations. For The Sleep Plan, Sleep Support+, and Toddler Sleep Support, we'll agree on a start date together so your support is there when you actually begin implementing your plan.

Question 9

Do you work with families outside Los Angeles?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Hay Sleep is based in Los Angeles, but virtual consultations allow me to work with families beyond LA. Your consultation, written plan, and follow-up support can all happen virtually.

Question 10

Do you offer in-home sleep support?

Accepted Answer

Limited in-home support may be available for families in the Los Angeles area. Reach out and we can talk about whether it's a fit for what you need.

Question 11

Can you diagnose reflux, tongue ties, sleep apnea, allergies, or other medical conditions?

Accepted Answer

No. As a sleep consultant, I provide education and behavioral sleep support. I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If something in our work together suggests your child should be seen by their pediatrician, an IBCLC, or another provider, I'll tell you.
